2023 Syrah, Stolpman 750ML
The 2023, like the 2022, is exceptional, but of an entirely different character. The cool year had us picking the fruit very late, on September 29 (Alban HD), October 15 (470 HD), 17 (174) and 25 (Massale and 383), almost 3 weeks later than 2022. The wine was completely destemmed and aged in all neutral 228L barriques and 400L French oak barrels before being selected for this cuvee. We love the medium bodied, yet highly coiled and cool power of this wine.
This wine has received early Critical Acclaim, with more to come. Vinous gave the wine 94 Points, noting the wine is a, “massively structured, powerful wine…. Inky blue/purplish fruit, menthol, mocha and purple flowers build in a tense, muscular frame…This is quite promising.” Jeb Dunnuck also gave this wine 94 Points saying the wine is “medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ample mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins. I love it today, yet it's going to keep for a solid 10-15 years in cold cellars”
