2020 Pinot Noir, Fiddlestix 750ML

2020 Pinot Noir, Fiddlestix 750ML

Fiddlestix sits in the climactic “goldilocks zone” of the Santa Rosa Road corridor, across the street from Sanford & Benedict and across the river from Sea Smoke and Rita’s Crown. This area gets just the right balance of sunshine, fog and wind to ripen the fickle Pinot Noir while retaining proper balance in the grapes. Soils include botella clay loam, Monterey shale and pockets of chert. We lease six separate blocks and clones here, each of which adds complexity to the final blend.

The 2020 vintage was a classic cool vintage until a series of extreme heat waves in August and September. Our historical knowledge of Fiddlestix (16 years), and our careful attention to each vineyard block, some critical fine tuning to drop damaged clusters and rigorous sorting at harvest helped us bring in grapes of truly excellent quality. The grapes were fermented with 10% whole clusters, and the wine aged for 19 months in top quality French oak barrels (20% new). The 2020 wine is concentrated and complex, with great the typical red spectrum fruits (cranberry, cherry, pomegranate) and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg & clove) with great texture and solid depth, balanced by terrific natural acidity. The wine evolves beautifully in the glass, suggesting a solid aging curve. Drink 2023 – 2033+

The 2020 was rated 96 points by Antonio Galloni and 94 Points Jeb Dunnuck.
